The LGBT Section at Haulover Beach

Everything you need to know about the north end near towers 15 and 16: where it is, what to expect, and why it's been a beloved gathering spot for decades.

Where to Find It

The LGBT-friendly area sits at the northernmost end of the clothing-optional section, around lifeguard towers 15 and 16. From the north parking lot, take the marked clothing-optional beach access and keep walking north. When the rainbow flags and umbrellas start outnumbering everything else, you've arrived.

You won't find a fence or an official sign reading "LGBT section." Like most things at Haulover, it evolved naturally over decades: the community gathered at the north end, kept showing up, and made it one of the most welcoming stretches of sand in Florida.

What to Expect

🏳️‍🌈 A Real Community

Regulars who've been coming for 20 years, first-timers, couples, groups of friends, and solo visitors. Expect easy conversation and zero attitude.

😎 Same Beach, Same Rules

This is a public, family-friendly, non-sexual beach, and the LGBT section is no exception. The etiquette that applies everywhere at Haulover applies here.

👙 Clothing Still Optional

Some people are nude, some wear suits, plenty land somewhere in between. You choose, and nobody gives it a second thought.

🍹 Full Beach Amenities

You're still within the staffed, serviced part of the park: lifeguards on duty, chair and umbrella rentals ($10/$15), and concessions a short walk south.

Tips for Your First Visit

  • Go north until it feels right. Towers 15 and 16 are the landmark. The vibe makes itself obvious.
  • Read the etiquette first. Our First-Timers Guide covers the universal rules: no staring, no photos of others, sit on a towel, keep it non-sexual.
  • Arrive early on weekends. The north end fills just like everywhere else. The parking guide has the full strategy.
  • Sundays are the social day. Weekend afternoons at the north end are as lively as Haulover gets.
  • Cover up beyond the signs. Once you leave the designated clothing-optional stretch, clothing is required, including the lot and the tunnel.

Making a Weekend of It

Haulover pairs perfectly with the rest of LGBT South Florida. Fort Lauderdale's Wilton Manors is a 30-minute drive north, South Beach is 20 minutes south, and plenty of visitors split their trip between all three. If you're staying near the beach, the nearby hotels guide covers Bal Harbour, Surfside, and Sunny Isles options within walking or short driving distance.
